Bronzino and the Medici

Rutgers University art historian Elizabeth Pilliod will give a talk about famous 16th century Florentine artist Agnolo Bronzino and his relationship with the Medici family. Bronzino not only preserved likenesses of members of the storied family and their court, but also re-animated some of them, in a perfected state through portraiture. As Leonbattista Alberti declared in his treatise On Painting “Through painting the faces of the dead go on living for a very long time.”
